There are gifted moments when the world I see hints at energies and forms of Great Nature that lay behind the surface. In a state of openness, reflection and receptivity I explore this dimension in myself and then in the analogous expression in the world before my eyes.

At times I am blessed to catch a glimpse of both realities, the natural world and the world behind it’s surface. I need to be careful in this process not to project onto the world what I wish was there, but in fact lies only in my mind and imagination.

I am not interested in the making of a beautiful photograph for its own sake. This can be easily done from the intellect and craftsmanship. Rather I wish to share an emotional experience and insight into the world as revealed through the photograph.

I look to discover an expression free from external concepts, aesthetics, or attempts for ‘self-expression.' In fact the revelation I seek can only happen when I get out of the way with all of my skills and knowledge.

Once recorded, the photograph is printed from an emotional stance in which I work with the wide range of possibilities for that particular print. I need to be careful of introducing any ideas of how a ‘good photograph’ should look. Tonal values, scale, print color, and the sense of spacial depth are explored and can come together to present a statement not previously felt or imagined until that particular photograph comes into being.

The way the photograph is printed is to create a visual statement of what was being experienced.
It presents a discovery and insight into the world and the spirit behind the surface.
